Wiki is about understanding.

It's easy to look something up and still not really get it. A fact on its own tells you what; understanding means seeing why - how an idea connects to others, what it builds on, and where it leads next.

Wiki aims to be a place where knowledge is explained so it can be understood, not just remembered. It sits next to Science: where Science works out what is true, Wiki helps everyone make sense of it.
